A question I am often asked is, “What is Franklin Tomorrow?” The simple answer is a nonprofit organization with a mission to engage the community, foster collaboration, and advocate for a shared vision for the future of Franklin.
What is that shared vision? The citizens have told us through our visioning process, surveys, and personal interaction that the shared vision for the future of Franklin is to be a city with robust neighborhoods, a vibrant economy, distinct character, and great people. Their top priorities include implementation of the City of Franklin’s adopted Open Space Master Plan and Streetscape, and secondly, continued development of contiguous trails, sidewalks, and greenways for walking and bicycling.
Is Franklin Tomorrow a membership organization? No, we don’t have memberships because we want to be inclusive of all individuals who live, work and play in Franklin.
Do you have to live in Franklin to participate in Franklin Tomorrow’ events or projects? Again, the answer is no, because in a world which is mobile in so many ways, Franklin Tomorrow again believes in being inclusive to our friends and neighbors from around Williamson County and Middle Tennessee.
When Franklin Tomorrow was founded in 2001, it was to create an umbrella organization with a broad focus which would allow citizens, elected officials, business owners and preservation groups to work together to focus attention and take action to safeguard the attributes that make Franklin so special.
It was the Irish statesman Edmund Burke who is credited with the stirring quote, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” But equally important is another statement he made: “Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.”
Join with us as we do things big and small, because together, we can have an impact.
