Approximately 150 people attended the first quarterly event for 2013 of Franklin Tomorrow’s Get Fit Franklin, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Westhaven Residents Club.
Vanderbilt Health is the sponsor of the quarterly events for Get Fit Franklin, which is a distance walking project which seeks to get residents to take the first step to fitness by stepping out their front door to take a walk on existing sidewalk or trail networks.
The Feb. 16 event had been rescheduled twice due to weather, but the cold temperatures didn’t keep participants away that day. Also helping to beat the cold was the oatmeal and toppings bar provided by Constant Craving Caterers and the coffee from High Brow Hill Coffee, soon to open in the Westhaven commercial center.
Participants got a chance for cold-weather workouts with Sweat Franklin and Team Tae Bo of Franklin, as well as a one-mile or 5K walk through the neighborhood. Vendors such as ActiveBuys.com, RunFranklin, Max Muscle, Mercy Community Healthcare, and the American Diabetes Association filled the first floor of the Residents Center.
Additional sponsors of the program include the City of Franklin, BancorpSouth, Westhaven/Southern Land, Middle Tennessee Electric Customer Cares, The Tennessean, Turner Construction, Franklin Special School District, The TMA Group, Williamson County Parks & Recreation, Franklin Mayor Ken Moore, PMC Mobile Solutions, Franklin Synergy Bank, and the Williamson County Health Department.
