As part of Franklin Mayor Dr. Ken Moore’s Find Hope Franklin initiative, Franklin Tomorrow will coordinate two separate sessions of Question Persuade and Refer (QPR) suicide prevention training over the next month.
The sessions are set for March 28, 1:30-2:45 p.m. and April 12, 1:30-2:45 p.m.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to understand mental health, recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis, and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.
As a QPR-trained Gatekeeper you will learn to:
Recognize the warning signs of suicide
Know how to offer hope
Know how to get help and save a life
The class will take one hour to 1.5 hours to complete.
The first session will be Tuesday, March 28, 1:20-2:45 p.m., at Franklin City Hall in the training room, best accessed from the Church Street side of the building. To RSVP, follow this link.
If you are unable to attend this session, another session will be offered Wednesday, April 12, 9:30-10:45 a.m. at Franklin City Hall Training Room. You can register for that class through this link.
